Laminaria Wood Earrings

A Breton inventor living with cystic fibrosis spent years in hospital treatment rooms on the coast of Brittany figuring out what to do with beached algae. The result is a patented material made from 98% stranded seaweed — dense, workable, and unlike anything else. CNC-milled into discs, hand-finished, and suspended from simple hooks, these earrings are objects from a material that did not exist before Eric Marcouyeux made it.

The sea, compressed into something you can wear.

The Muco-Algue material has been endorsed by Vincent Doumeizel, UN Ocean Advisor, and noted by Lidewij Edelkoort, one of the world's leading trend forecasters. A portion of proceeds from every piece supports cystic fibrosis patient associations Vaincre la Mucoviscidose and Grégory Lemarchal. The earrings are part of the permanent collection at the 70.8 Museum of Innovation in Brest.
